About Donald Dean

Picture of Donald DeanDonald is a Web Designer and has built many Internet Websites.  He has been interested in technology and computers for most of his life.

His first exposure to computers and programming came when he enrolled at Wichita State University in 1968 in pre-engineering.

Don bought his first home computer in 1984.  It was an NCR Decision Mate V.  It had no hard drive and the CP/M operating system had to be loaded from a 5 1/4" floppy drive every time you turned it on.  It had a 12" monochrome screen and a grand total of 64 K of RAM.

NCR Decision Mate V ComputerAfter working for 10 years in the construction industry, Don wanted a change in life but also wanted to stay in the field of technology, so he decided to go back to school and get a Computer Science degree.  In 1987 he graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics.

He worked as a programmer at a regional data center for Farm Credit Bank for two years and then was hired by Boeing Commercial Airplane Company as a Computer Analyst.

CATIA and other Boeing programs were becoming so numerous and so complex that they needed a software management tool just to keep track of all the pieces and to test and install the programs, and that's what Configuration Management is all about.

Don wrote training materials, put together manuals, and held classes to teach other Boeing Analysts and Engineers how to use Boeing's Configuration Management System for their programs.

While Don was at Boeing, the Internet and the World Wide Web were growing by "leaps and bounds" and Don found this was an area that fascinated him.  He took every opportunity he could to learn about the Web and designing Websites.

In 2005, Don took early retirement from Boeing and is currently self-employed as a website builder.
